5 Steps for Successful Tax Lien Investing

Tax lien investing can be a lucrative opportunity, but it requires thorough research and planning. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned investor, following these key steps will help set you up for success.

Step 1 Decide Between Tax Lien or Tax Deed

Start by understanding the difference between tax liens and tax deeds. With a tax lien, you’re purchasing the right to collect unpaid property taxes plus interest after a specified redemption period. A tax deed, however, allows you to acquire ownership of the property so make sure you thoroughly check the property first.  Decide which strategy aligns with your goals and risk tolerance.

Step 2 Set Your Budget

Determine how much capital you’re comfortable investing. Remember, not all liens or deeds come with the same price tag. Be clear on your budget to avoid overextending yourself financially. Tax Deeds generally require more capital as you are purchasing the property.

Start with single family houses with 3Bedrooms, 1-2 bathrooms, greater than 1,000 square feet
